At 6 a.m. on November 18, the National Weather Service issued a flood watch for 34 counties of West Virginia, predicting anywhere from 1 to 3 inches in the upcoming 24 hours.

By 8 a.m. November 19, Route 16 on the Upper West Fork of the Little Kanawha River was flooded in three places, and by 10 a.m., water was in the gymnasium of Normantown School.

And the rain continued.

By 11 a.m. Steer Creek crossed Rosedale Road, and we knew then we were on the farm for the duration of the flood.
