Audra High Waters

In 2007, Frank and I wanted to be the first campers at Audra opening weekend of the season, since were were the last to leave when the season closed the year before. When we left, the weather predicted one day of sun, and then 'scattered showers.' By the time we packed up and left four days later, it was snowing.

The sun was shining when we arrived on Friday, ready to unload.

Other than a cool breeze, the day, and the river, was beautiful.

The first evening got a little chilly, but the campfire was warm, and the waters and skies were still blue.

Saturday it rained and rained. We took shelter from the storm under the tarps and in the tent.

Sunday morning, it was wet, flooding, and foggy.

The fog rose from the risen waters, and clouded the view of the hills.

This is where the water was when we emerged from our tent on Sunday morning.

Sunday morning, after Saturday's day-long rain, the river rose to meet us.

The water falls let us know the water would keep rising.

Around 4 p.m. on Sunday afternoon, the river crested -- about two feet from our campfire.

You can see how close it came to overtaking our camp site.

Usually, this section of river just below the bridge is filled with huge boulders. In this picture, it still is, you just can't see them.
