It is very important to
prepare for your interview.
This is the secret to interview confidence and success.
Practice Your Answers to
Typical Interview Questions
There are routine interviewing
questions you could expect. If you have given thought to your
answers and practiced them before the interview, you will inevitably
perform better under the gun.
Do a background check on your
prospective employer.
Do your homework. Review any available information, including
reports, brochures, advertisements. Get a thorough understanding of
the company products, history, and competition. If you don't have
any information, try to find their web site, or call the Chamber of
Commerce.
Gather your references.
You can include former supervisors, teachers, department heads. Do
not include family members, and try to make sure those listed have
known you at least two years. Call the people you are considering,
and ask their permission first. You want to know they will be a good
reference. Also, get their current contact information.
Prepare your clothing and your
body.
Your appearance makes a statement about you. Make sure you are
making a positive statement with your clothing and apparel
selections. Make sure you practice good hygiene as well. Shower,
shave, wash your hair and fingernails and brush your teeth.
Try to dress one step above the
position you are applying for.
If you have a business suit, wear it. Use your iron. Wear
conservative clothes in conservative colors like blues, grays and
browns. Make sure your shoes are as clean as your body. Don't wear
loud fashions, excessive jewelry, or strong perfume or cologne. Go
easy on the make-up.
Read your resume.
Look at how far you have come, your abilities and your
accomplishments. Who is the person who achieved all those things?
YOU ARE. Who worked, and learned, and earned? YOU DID. Be proud of
yourself.
Get a good night's sleep.
If you are well-rested, you will look better, feel better, and
perform better.
